Compact tractors get tough jobs done
If there is a “just right” category of equipment to have, it’s today’s compact tractors. They are cleaner, more efficient, and with attachments are about the hardest-working items on an acreage.
Need snow plowed, holes dug, timber lugged, gravel spread, ditches cleaned, or manure moved? A compact tractor will get into the tight spaces and still have enough oomph to get the job done.
Here are nine great examples to look into.

Ideal for hauling material, digging holes, mowing and using implements, this 25 hp 4WD compact, Bobcat says, is strong enough for big jobs, small enough to fit in tight areas. The 2025 features an easy-access open workstation with ROPS, and Category 1 three-point hitch for using implements. Choice of manual-shift transmission or hydrostatic transmission. Integrated loader joystick lever makes front-end loader work easier. Rear PTO is standard, with optional mid-PTO available.
Built with attachment versatility in mind, the YM342 is compatible with both category 1 and category 2 attachments. A telescopic hitch arm provides ease and convenience with small adjustments for quick attachment mounting. The YM342’s 41-horsepower engine gives maximum traveling speed of 17.7 mph. Gear Drive transmission and the Yanmar diesel engine provide high torque and more usable PTO Power. The YM342 tractor was designed with an adjustable suspension seat and a flat isolation mounted floorboard design for operator comfort.
New Holland’s Workmaster compact tractors like the Workmaster 50 are an ideal compact farm utility or landscape tractor. The 2515R and 2515h tractors provide smaller horsepower on a bigger chassis. The 15-Series tractors have 24 horsepower motors and come with either a manual 12 speed synchro shuttle transmission (2515R) or a 3-range Hydro-max, hydrostatic transmission (2515h) with a synchronized auto acceleration system. A beefy 3,014-pound dry weight makes them one of the heaviest tractors in this horsepower range, due to cast iron rear ends—making a loader lift capacity of 2,200 pounds possible.
